HERITAGE AND HISTORY MONTHS
During the Month of May, IIDA Georgia celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. AAPI Heritage Month is an annual recognition of the historical and cultural contributions of people of Asian and Pacific Islander origin to the United States. The AAPI umbrella word encompasses cultures from all around Asia, including East, Southeast, and South Asia, as well as Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia in the Pacific. In 2019, the United States had around 22.9 million people of Asian or Pacific Islander ancestry. According to the Pew Research Center, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) make up around 7% of the total U.S. population. To our Asian and Pacific Islander members, we salute you. This month, and always, we recognize and celebrate you. Asian/Pacific encompasses all of the Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia.
